So, you want to know what it's all about? Well, you have come to the right place. 1Point4 is the ratio of adults to children taught at my purpose-built classroom in Harrow. I founded the business in 2013.
I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1998 from Stanmore Sixth Form College. I then went on to study at the University of Surrey, Roehampton, graduating in 2005 with a BA in Early Childhood Studies (QTS).
Before home educating my three children, I worked as a primary school teacher, teaching students from Nursery (age 3) up to year 6 (aged 11). I have experience in teaching up to 32 children in a class at any one time. However, I believe children benefit from individual attention in small groups. I believe that four children in a group is a comfortable number for both the teacher and the students, hence the name 1Point4.
Since home educating, my passion has grown to help parents feel empowered to teach their own children at home. I provide them with the skills to do this through 1Point4Academy and take on the teaching role for many at 1Point4Teacher.
1Point4Teacher offers two services:
1) Local tuition in mathematics, English and creative writing to primary-aged pupils. Teaching is face to face and operates from my purpose-built classroom in Harrow.
2) 1Point4Academy is a free online curriculum covering maths and English, offering free activities already available on the web. It is geared toward home educating families and those wanting to supplement their child's learning at home.
